Privacy policy
Last updated
This policy covers the scoop.md Chrome extension, the shared library at api.scoop.md, and this website. They are run by [LEGAL ENTITY] ("we"). Questions go to privacy@scoop.md.
The short version
- The extension reads only the tab you're on, and only when you click the button or press its shortcut.
- Anything that needs you signed in stays on your device. Only documentation fetched without your cookies can be shared.
- Sharing can be turned off. The library can be turned off entirely.
- No accounts. No browsing history. No ads, no trackers, and we don't sell data.
- IP addresses are used for rate limiting and not stored.
What the extension reads
When you click Scoop to agent, the extension reads the active tab's address, title and page content. It doesn't run in the background, doesn't see other tabs, and doesn't read your browsing history. It writes the package to your clipboard; it never reads your clipboard.
To find documentation the site already publishes, the extension requests files like <page>.md, llms.txt, llms-full.txt and the page itself directly from that site, without your cookies. Those requests go to the documentation site, not to us. This is why the extension asks for access to all sites: it can't know in advance which docs you'll scoop.
What stays on your device
- The package on your clipboard.
- Your settings (library address, sharing on or off), stored in Chrome's extension storage. If you use Chrome sync, Chrome syncs them with your Google account.
- A random install ID the extension creates on first run. It identifies an installation, not a person.
- Anything from a page that only rendered because you're signed in. It reaches your clipboard and nowhere else.
What leaves your device
Only when the library is on (it is by default, at api.scoop.md):
Every click
The site's hostname (for example docs.stripe.com), so the library can return a scoop for it. Not the page address, not the page content.
When sharing is on and the material was fetched without cookies
- The public documentation sections in the package, and the URL each came from.
- The page's address and title.
- Related links from the site's navigation.
- Your install ID.
If any part of the package came from your signed-in view of the page, nothing is shared. The library then re-fetches every source itself, without cookies, and rejects anything that doesn't match what the site serves publicly.
When you vote or report
- "It worked" or "It didn't": the scoop's ID, your vote and your install ID.
- A report: the scoop's ID, the reason, anything you type in the details box, and your install ID.
Every request also carries what any web request does: your IP address and your browser's user agent, plus the extension's version.
What the library keeps
- Shared scoops: the documentation text, source URLs, page address and title, related links, the time it was shared and the sharer's install ID. Scoops and their vote counts are public, on this website and through the API. Install IDs are never published.
- Votes: scoop ID, install ID, the vote and when it was cast. One per install; a new vote replaces the old one.
- Reports: as submitted, until they are resolved and for our records afterwards.
- Request logs: method, route, status, duration and extension version. No IP addresses, install IDs or content.
IP addresses are used only to apply rate limits and are not stored. Scoops stay until they are taken down. When one is taken down, its content is deleted and a record that it existed is kept for audit.
We run on Cloudflare, which processes requests to this website and the library on our behalf.
This website
scoop.md sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Fonts are served from this site. The library pages show only the public data described above.
Your choices
- Turn sharing off in the extension's options. Scooping still works; nothing is uploaded.
- Clear the library address in the options to use the extension with no network calls to us at all.
- Uninstalling the extension deletes its settings and install ID from your browser.
- To have data linked to your install ID deleted, email us. We don't know who you are, so we may need the install ID from your extension to find it.
Takedowns
If a scoop contains something it shouldn't (your content, wrong or harmful material), use the report button in the extension or email privacy@scoop.md with the site and scoop. Publishers can also ask us to stop storing scoops for their site.
Children
scoop.md is a developer tool and isn't directed at children.
Changes
If we change what's collected, we'll update this page and its date before the change ships. Material changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
